Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946 into a very low-income family, with twelve kids later on, realized early that she could escape her hardships through a vivid imagination. Before she was able to write or read, she began to compose the songs she wrote herself. At the age of eight, she bought the first electric guitar she owned and began to sing at an Knoxville Tenn Radio Station. Gold Band Records is a small, independent label. Although she was at school, she already established herself within the local arena. Her goal was to to make music on a bigger scale. When she graduated from the high school in 1964, she moved immediately to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her first two charting albums from Monument Records. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for a new girl singer for his television show that was syndicated. Parton accepted the job in 1967 signed with RCA Records in 1968 and joined in the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. However she left Wagoner's show in 1974 when her solo albums like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene were charting collaborations with them. Parton following the breakup of their relationship with Wagoner, wrote I Will Always Love You and had it reach No. #1 for the first time in 1974.
