Despacito is a hit song from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi together with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It became the number streamed song at the time within six month. It was a blend of reggaeton and pop music which not only brought attention to Latin Music, but also reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish in 2016, compared to just two songs in 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish tracks made the top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 songs. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix to Despacito (2017) famous artists began to collaborate with reggaeton artists, including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma on Medellin (2019). Certain reggaeton performers expressed their displeasure at the rise of popular music by 2020. However, a brand new group, Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the evolution and development of reggaeton. It was often associated with electronic dance as well as different styles.
