Lee Roy Selmon's existence is a combination of football scholarships, family involvement as well as community involvement. The first time the Selmons were born with Lucious as well as Jessie Selmon, on the farm close to Eufala in Oklahoma as the youngest of the nine children they had. Second football he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi award as the best lineman in the country. During his three years as Oklahoma's starting quarterback, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and captured two national titles. A third scholarship saw him named an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon graduated with a degree from the university of California at Berkeley. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work during his college years. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. Additionally, he started an entrepreneurial career. By 1988 he had become an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him in 1982 as being one of the top 10 young men in the US. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds when he was a student athlete. He was captain of the team in 1975. In 1993, he became the assistant director of Athletics at University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
